Introduction

The movie “The Devil Wares Prada” is telling the story of a girl, who just graduated from university, and work in a fashion magazine company. And I am going to analyze this movie viewed from Organization Behavior, which means what I reflect of the events happened in the movie and how can I related the concepts or theories from the course material to the movie. I would like to start this Analysis with a brief introduction of the main characters in the movie which I will talk about in my analysis. Andrea Sachs, also called Andy, is an aspiring journalist fresh out of Northwestern University. Despite her ridicule for the shallowness of the fashion industry, she lands a job "a million girls would kill for," junior personal assistant to Miranda Priestly, the icy editor-in-chief of Runway fashion magazine. Emily Charlton is Miranda's haughty senior assistant, who tolerates her boss's rudeness and insults so that she may accompany her to Paris for Fall Fashion Week. And Nigel, which is the art director for Runway and the only person at the magazine that Andrea feels she can trust, despite his sometimes cutting remarks about her wardrobe and weight.

Reflective portion

In the scenarios of the movie that tells, there are a lot of people working together in the company, different people have different positions when they facing the same issues, which means they have different psychological reaction and performance. I am going to give some example to explain the events as many observations as possible from different points of view.

The First event which I want to discuss is happened when Andy meeting her boyfriend and two of their friends. At that time, Nigel already helped Andy to let her have a qualitative leap in terms of fashion. It is the first time for Andy to gained unprecedented self-confidence and approval from Miranda since she begins to work in the company, and that means a lot to Andy. Because since Andy came to the company, the fellow always feel disparaging about Andy’s clothes, and Miranda seems never satisfy with Andy’s work and dressing before. So for Andy, whether the improvement of fashion or the approval of Miranda, it means a big gain on her career development.

While Andy meeting with her boyfriend and other friends, she brings some stylish gifts to them and their friends all like the gifts very much. However, when Miranda calls Andy suddenly, her friends playing a prank and hinders her to answer the phone for a while, that make Andy fell very unhappy and she left in a hurry. In this situation, Andy is yearning for more approval from Miranda, she is hurry to pick up the phone and she cannot understand that it was just a joke of her friends. And for her boyfriend, he showed careless about Andy’s stylish gifts because he may feel that her girlfriend is not like the person who she is before. He thinks that she is already become a stylish girl which is all outer show and inward emptiness. Andy’s boyfriend and friends have some feeling that they already do not have same topics with Andy when Andy start talk lots of issues and words about “fashion filed”. And When Andy left, they seem shocked by the Andy’s behavior and words.
