What it’s like to work at Rogers

  1. Intrinsic Motivation:

Video item: Change Manager, National Customer Care David O’Neill says “I personally enjoy coming to work every day having something new to deal with” (0:39). This illustrates the Intrinsic Motivation concept “Behaviour that is performed for its own sake” which appears on page 217 chapter 8.

This item relates to the management of the company as follows: employees enjoy what they are doing because they think the job is interesting and challenging. They are able to perform their best to achieve these goals for themselves, and these achievements can also help the organization to achieve organizational goals and gain competitive advantages. From the aspect of management, it significantly decreases the boredom for employees and makes a good use of employees’ skills and abilities.

  1. Extrinsic motivation:

Video item: Senior Recruitment Consultant Navi Dhanoa says “It’s a go-go-go environment and that’s what I thriving.” (0:44). This illustrates the Extrinsic Motivation concept “behavior that is performed to acquire material or social rewards or to avoid punishment” Which appears on page 217 chapter 8.

This item relates to the management of the company as follows: employees are motivated by the company environment. Everyone is working hard to achieve their goals. Employees are able to convert pressures into power in order to arouse them to work harder to meet their outcomes. From the aspect of management, normally, there is a reward towards to their performance such as promotion or bonus pay. These rewards are key elements to arouse employees to work hard to meet the organizational goals

  1. Prosocially Motivated Behavior:

Video item: Rogers’ Youth Fund program and NTSD Customer Escalation Advisor Nakea Jarrett says “our presence within these communities every single year makes a huge difference” (2:14). This illustrates the Prosocially Motivated Behavior concept “behavior that is performed to benefit or help others” on page 218 chapter 8.

This item relates to the management of the company as follows: nowadays, organizations are not only focus on its own business but also focus on the society. They help people in need to have a better life and this helps the organization to gain its reputation in the community. Moreover, from the aspect of the management, when workers have high prosocial motivation, also having high intrinsic motivation can be especially beneficial for job performance (page 218)
