Features of a good website design

Anyone can build a website these days. However, if one wants a website to look professional, it should be well-designed. Otherwise people may leave the page as soon as they reach it and no-one will be willing to buy or trade on the website (Ryland Designs, 2013).

Navigation

The website should be easy for users to navigate through it. There should be easy internal links making is easy for users to browse though the website and to ensure that the user finds what he/she is looking for (Ryland Designs, 2013). The navigation buttons and bars should be easy to understand and use and consistent on the website.

Easy to read

The website needs to be easy for users to read. The text should be the right font and colour on a suitable background. If the text is not easy to read, people would not waste time trying to figure out but simply look for other websites having the same information. There should not be too much white space on the page. Additionally, the text should not remain a big block but broken down into simple paragraphs (Ryland Designs, 2013).

Loading Speed

A website should be able to load quickly as people do not really like to sit and wait. Hence the website should be simple to allow it to load quickly (Ryland Designs, 2013).

Meet its purpose

A well designed website also needs to show what it is supposed to show. It would be unethical to make people believe that a website will give them free vouchers but instead ask them to buy things. A website that does not do what it is supposed to do will soon lose value (Ryland Designs, 2013).
