Ethics and Foreign Markets

Breeze LTD, based in the United Kingdom, is launching a new cell phone product line in Australia.  The company wants to make a good impression and show the Australian consumers they are a strong, ethical company.  Ethics and public relations are important elements of a company’s image.  Many ethical and social issues can affect a company in a positive or negative way.  It is how the company deals with these issues that will determine if the Breeze LTD will be reflected positively in Australia.

Ethics

Ethics are founded on the morals, beliefs and values of an individual or company (Newsom, 2004).  The social responsibility of a company is becoming more important in today’s society than before.  Many issues affecting Breeze LTD would include going green, reducing waste, and recycling.  However, an overarching social issue is transparency.  Many companies are cast in to a negative light because the company is not truthful in the information it distributes to the public.  At Breeze LTD, the employees are taught from the first day the company believes in being transparent and letting customers know where they stand and how they operate.  There have been a few companies over the years that have fudged their financial records to make it look as though they have been making a large profit and in reality they have been breaking even or losing money.  Breeze believes in telling its stakeholders and customers the truth of their financial stability.  In addition, Breeze believes in being honest in their advertising campaigns.  They make sure their customers know exactly how the cell phones are being produced and distributed.  Breeze also believes in employing those within the country they do business.  In the Australian market, Breeze has increased the number of employed Australians.  In recent years companies have been moving their businesses overseas because it is cheaper labor.  Breeze believes in building up the confidence of the Australian people because the company knows these are the people who will be purchasing the products they produce.  While being transparent and ethical, Breeze believes, with the help of their public relations department, they will portray a positive image and help foster a good relationship between the company and its consumers.
