Wyldeburg Ltd.

Case Study

Introduction:

This report will be based on research I have undertaken in regards to Wyldeburg Ltd.'s current distribution and operational issues. This report will highlight several options available that can be used in order to alleviate current problems that have been highlighted in Wyldeburg Ltd and will provide a more efficient and productive utilisation of the companies infrastructure and operations. In section one of the case studies i will look at problems such as;

• Damages & Returns

• Large amount of returns from supermarkets

• Shortage of 1kg and 3kg bags

• Insufficient space in packaging and distribution

In the section two of the report I will give information on;

• Issues which need to be anticipated in cooperation with departments such as sales, production and procurement and what facets of their responsibilities would you encourage them to change.

Distribution Manager:

Section 1: Current Issues

Damages and Returns:

From my readings of the case study I have gathered that damages and returns are a very big problem for Wyldeburg Ltd. In particular when it comes to deliveries to the 176 garden centres and 25 pet shops that the company services. This can have huge complications on Wyldeburg Ltd. As they will have increased costs, not just for the loss of sales, but also for the cost of having to recycling damaged goods and also for the increased cost in transport. Also another very sensitive problem is that the deliveries from Wyldeburg Ltd to the 176 garden centres and 25 pet shops are directly from Wyldeburg Ltd themselves and this can have a major effect on customers who buy direct. The image of the company could be scrutinized if they are seen to be constantly delivering damaged goods to their regular customers.

Wyldeburg Ltd can tackle this issue through numerous avenues.

• Packaging/Handling: Shipments should be in a container that is suitable for its contents. Never exceed the containers maximum gross weight. Also Wyldeburg Ltd could increase the standard
