Describe how a particular challenge in the past has helped you develop as a person.

Among the various qualities I have developed until now, the trait that will most benefit my studies at your institution would be cultural diversity. While studying at the Moraine Valley Community College and Indiana University for 2 years, I exposed myself to much diversity through the club activities. In particular, I actively participated in the international club, interacting with the diverse group of international students. Moreover, I held monthly orientations on Korea to promote my own culture.

Since I’ve always been interested in Communication, I furthered my connections with the student body by joining the Speech club. Furthermore, I frequented peer study groups, which not only benefited my academics and helped me make the Dean’s List, but also gave me more cultural exposure. The combination of these three clubs developed my understanding of American and non-American cultures, so that I could live with either, without any obstacles.

My other strengths include my optimistic and sociable temperament, which proved greatly helpful during my years of boarding high school. Thanks to these attributes, I was able to befriend many international students even during my first year studying abroad in America, when it can be tough to adjust to the new setting. Through our friendships, I was able to grow personally and academically. In addition, I possess an acute sense of judgment and efficient time management skills. Through the former, I flawlessly carried out my part in team projects with my peers. With the latter, I developed a structured lifestyle balancing club activities and academics. Because I have experienced that the same 24 hours can be worth 10 or 50 hours depending on one’s time management, I make the choices
