1. Based on what you read in the chapter and in previous chapters, what would your decision be if you were the arbitrator? Why?

If I were the arbitrator, I would have to agree with the computer department employee. I say this because she did try to correct her error in the beginning stages of the run by informing the manager of the computer operations of her mistake. Though, the manager did not follow up on her report and end the initial run, which resulted in a string of errors. This is his fault. I feel that she has been has not been treated fairly since she was harshly punished and the manager was not disciplined, even though he was the one who compounded the problem. The computer department employee is known for having an "impeccable" work record and being a "model employee." This says a lot.

This is a statement of opinion.

2. Do you think that after their experience in this arbitration the parties will be more or less inclined to settle grievances by themselves without resorting to arbitration in the future? Why or why not.

After their experience in this arbitration, the parties will be less inclined to settle grievances by themselves without resorting to arbitration in the future. The parties realize that arbitrators have good judgment and present fairness among parties. They appreciate the arbitrator's service, since the punctual and knowledgeable determination of disputes promotes good business relations and alleviates the courts.
