A Great Leader

In my eyes, I would have to say Martin Luther King Jr. was a great leader and I am sure many more would agree. Martin Luther King Jr. was born January 15, 1929 in Atlanta Georgia. His father was a Baptist minister and his mother was a school teacher. Martin was a very intellectual child and he grew up to accomplish many things. Martin did many things as he got older. When he was 18, he became a minister and delivered his first speech in his father’s church. The next year he was appointed to serve as assistant pastor the same church. Martin went on to graduate from Morehouse College when he was only 19. He also attended Crozer and graduated at the age of 22 and begun studying at Boston University. He earned a Ph.D. in Systematic Theology in 1955. In 1954, he became the pastor of Dexter Avenue Baptist Church. Martin was great at what he did.

Then the group Southern Christian Leadership Conference was formed to come up with a plan to end segregation all together. King was chosen to serve as president of this group, as well. While participating in these many groups and organizations, King’s life and family was put in danger. His house was bombed and he was stabbed by a lady at a book signing. King did not stop like the great leader he was he kept pushing to achieve his ultimate goal. King was a pastor, author, leader, father, and a husband. While fighting for others rights, he was arrested a couple times and he also went on marches. In 1963, King delivered his “I Have A Dream” speech and he had a crowd of 250, 000 followers. Only a great leader could grasp the attention of this many people and reach out to make them understand what is going on and change it for the better. King was a well-respected man, he was the youngest to receive the Nobel Peace Prize, was on the front of Time
