What is 2D code?

2D codes or Quick Response codes (QR codes) are a kind of barcode that is made of tiny square clustered together. The code contains data or information in, unlike the traditional barcode that contains only numbers which needs to be translate into a meaningful information later on.

           2D codes is involved in m payment system to store information of the owner’s bank account information in their smart phone. Therefore, there is no need for buyers to have a physical card with them all the time because stores can scan your 2D code in your smartphone and the payment is done.[pic 3]

How does 2D code work?

                   The 2D code method can be divided into three categories; individual-to-large business transaction, individual-to-small business transaction, and individual-to-individual transaction.

           For individual-to-large business transaction, customer show the 2D code of their credit card, debit card, or online wallet to the cashier at the point of sale. The cashier then scan the 2D code from the customer smartphone. Then, the amount of money will be deduct from the customer automatically.

Since in the small business, they rarely have the barcode scanner. Therefore, scanning the 2D code from customer device might not be possible. So, in individual-to-small business transaction, customer need to be the one who scan the 2D code via their smart phone. The retailer will provide the 2D code in the bill. The customer is required to open the application, scan the code, and add the amount that needs to be paid. After that, the money will be paid to the merchant from the customer wallet.

The process of payment in individual-to-individual transaction and individual-to-small business transaction are quite the same. Both the payer and the receiver have to open the application. Then, the payer scan the receiver 2D code, enter the amount that needs to be transfer, and the transaction is completed.

Advantages of 2D code.

           The 2D code mobile payment system is another innovative way that customers are able to pay their bills. This innovation have lots of benefit to the method.

           The 2D codes are available at all time. Since people do not normally forgot their phone and it is with them all the time. So when it comes to the time when people do not have enough paper cash to pay, the 2D codes are always an alternative choice.

           It is another convenient and fast way to complete the transaction. By only open the application, the 2D code, and then scan the code, the bills are quickly paid. There is no need to waste time to pick up a bank note and wait for the change. Therefore, this method saves time to both the customer and the merchant.
