Primary Stakeholders

Stakeholders are individuals or groups with which business interacts who have a stake, or vested interest, in the organization. Primary stakeholders have a direct stake in the organization and its success. A stake is an interest in or a share in an undertaking. The primary stakeholders involved in the Chiquita Company are the owners, the employees of Chiquita and their immediate families, suppliers of Chiquita, and the community; all of the citizens of Columbia attacked by the groups who received funding from Chiquita. This is a very diverse list of stakeholders and their interest is very diverse as well.

Owner’s Stakes

Owner of the company as stakeholders is self-explanatory. Company owners are interested in how much profit the company makes and the future success of the company.

Employees and their Immediate Families

The employees of the Chiquita Company have a personal stake in the continued success of the company. These people rely on the company’s success for their livelihood. This is how employees make their living and supply their own, and their families, needs. Normally, I would not include the families of employees as major stakeholders in an organization but in this instance I believe it fits. Due to the violence and the fact that Chiquita employees were losing their lives simply by showing up for work makes their families major stakeholders in the company. The success of the company to adequately keep their employees safe is a major stake for the employees and their families.

Suppliers

Suppliers provide products and services return for payment. These suppliers want to get paid and they also want repeat business. If he Chiquita Company was a large enough client to the supplier, the company’s success could possibly have a detrimental effect on that supplier. Therefore, the growth and success of the supplier depends on the growth and success of the organization. If the company fails, they lose the profits and the future business and this has the potential to even hurt the supplier's reputation.

Community

The community which has a stake in the business as employers of local people. Business activity also affects the local environment.
