TITLE – THE ROLE OF IS/IT IN TRANSFORMING BUSINESS ENTREPRISE

ABSTRACT

This research paper is aimed at providing information on the role of IS/IT (Information System and Information Technology in transforming business enterprise or organizations. It is becoming impossible to ignore and irresponsible to avoid the growing effect of ecommerce and mobile application on business growth or development in our today's world.

We shall clearly understand and evaluate real case studies of how IS/IT has help shaped business growth and successfully implemented e-commerce and mobile applications that dramatically increase the Return on Investment (ROI), and then improve the effectiveness and efficiency of business process. We shall use both Quantitative and Qualitative approaches in the methodology to gather and analyze hypothesis or data. Our approach focus first on the basic approach which is purely for Academic research paper that is for academic work and search for truth and then secondly Applied research also known as Contract research which is trying to find solution to how IS/IT transform Enterprise using www. E-commerce and Mobile Applications. Some of the case studies we shall x-ray includes Ford Motor corporation, webvan.com, UPS Delivery, Expedia. Inc., Priceline.com, Dow Jones and EBay etc.

According to OECD (1997, pg 20), E-commerce is the application of ICT to the production and distribution of goods and services on a global scale. Also E-commerce has been defined as "the buying and selling of products and services by businesses and consumers over the Internet" (WWW.Commerce.net).

IS ROLES SHOULD BE:

1. Provide real time training and knowledge about immediate task and the complete process

2. Provide and maintain a transitive memory of who knows what in an organization

3. Provide real time monitoring of performance and decision making or decision support systems

4. Provide a virtual work space to allow people see each others work

5. Simplify coordination of work done in the organization.

MOBILE APPLICATION (Business Context)

(Valentino Lee, 2004), Consumers and workers are the primary users of Mobile Applications and the seems to be as a means of communication and for work, entertainment, education and location purposes.
