Future Issues with Technology

Kymera Motorized Body Board

This invention was created by Jason Woods, as a way for ordinary people to explore the waterways without having to use a boat or wave runner. The body board is a smaller and light weight water vehicle that is easy to carry by one person. It runs on a two stroke engine and can reach up to 15 miles per hour. The latest electrical version is capable of reaching speeds of up to 25 miles per hour.

How do people affect technology?

Jason came up with this idea while he was 19 years old; he liked to ride the girls around the lake where he lived. With this in mind he bought a boat and continued his hobby. The only he problem he had was the size of the boat, it was too big and he decided to invent the Kymera Motorized Body Board. While in High School Jason learned how to make rockets and he also could build battle ready robots. His idea brought him to the invention of the Kymera; he created a carbon fiber board that was powered by a small two stroke gas engine.

This board would propel a rider while displacing about half an inch of water. This board only weighs about 35 pounds, and one person can carry it to the water. There was a little difficulty while he was trying to track down parts light enough to build his board. Looking on the internet he ran across a subculture of German R/C boat enthusiasts. Searching through various websites he discovered many companies that produce parts light enough for his body board, and bought a jet pump from one of the companies for around 500.00 dollars.

Technologies are invented to address society’s problems or to fulfill a growing desire for something new and more advanced. Most new technologies are invented to replace current technologies. Most of the time the old technology remains present with the new technology and they work side by side.
