Laughter is the Best Medicine

Laughter is so much more than a chuckle made when enthused. Researchers have concluded that it is one of the most powerful and positive emotions that humans display. Researchers have found that laughter encourages the human body to thrive. Laughter can help relieve stress, help support a stronger immune system, promote creativity, and help people strengthen relationships with one another. These reasons display that laughter promotes better health.

Laughter has been scientifically proven to help reduce stress. Laughter is one of the easiest ways to induce endorphin release. Endorphins are the body’s natural painkiller, that produces a general sense of well being. Endorphins are neurotransmitters that are generated in the brain aiming to reduce pain. When one experiences uncontrollable laughter, they notice how they can barely feel any pain, the numbness prevails because the intensity of the endorphin release. Some doctors recommend patients try out laughing to release endorphin and get instant relief instead of using drugs. When stress levels are lowered, it is easier for people to be more optimistic and have a more positive attitude. Having a positive attitude can help people to push through tough times and increase personal satisfaction. Laughter can also make it easier to cope with difficult situations. In addition, it helps people connect with others.

Laughter, proven to relieve stress, also induces positive and physical changes in the body. We change physically when we laugh. Muscles are stretched throughout one’s face and body, pulse and blood pressure go up, and one breathes faster, sending more oxygen to their tissues. Laughter encourages relaxation by relieving muscle tension and leaving people with a calm sense of well being. Laughter has proven to help strengthen people’s immune system because infection-fighting antibodies are released when you laugh.
