I think the main point of this movie is to disintegrate from one thing to another which is the changing ofNina from white Swan to Black Swan, to represent the contrast between the light and dark side of human life.

Nina was over protective by her mom, she pushes Nina to reach her goal. Her Mum wraps her in cotton wool and lives her life through her daughter, no matter how old she is but her mom still takes care of her like a little child. She has to undertake on her mother expectation that she want to see her being success in ballet to replace her dream.

Strict parenting, affect the expression of her dance, which her prominent point is the accuracy of the gesture, discipline of the body, and the ability of skills and training. But her weakness is the expression or communication of emotions through the bodythat makes her ballet moves beautiful, but without the spiritual and emotional.

“Thomas” the ballet director, is looking for a new ballet star play the role of the Swan Queen. Nina’s meticulous dancing is perfect to play the role of the White Swan, but she also has to be able to play the Black Swan, a role that requires the dancer to be twisted. Nina’s style is not suitable for the Black Swan, but Thomas chooses her as the Swan Queen anyway. He knows she has it in her, and he will bring it out as he said in the scene“Perfection is not just about control. It is also about letting go. Surprise yourself so you can surprise the audience. Transcendence. Very few have it in them.”

This is when the dark side of Nina starting to begin, Thomas is trying to create a new Nina (the black character) by putting himself to control her mind to bring to opposite side out of her, and I think this is what the director of the movie trying to show the opposition between mom who trying to programmed her daughter to be “perfectionist”, but Thomas is trying to bring what she hide in her, to show out to suit the character of the show.
