When did you develop an interest in music?

Dubbed by many as the princess of pop, an allusion to Michael Jackson’s title of King, Britney Spears is now thirty-four years old. In other terms, she is just one year shy of the age requirement for presidential eligibility. That age requirement was put into place to ensure presidential candidates have a certain level of maturity before attempting to take office, but at an age where many of her peers are only beginning to settle into their careers, Ms. Spears has accomplished more than many do in their lifetimes.

When did you first develop an interest in music?

Britney was born in McComb, Mississippi, and her family moved her brother Bryan and I to Kentwood, Louisiana where they were raised. Her earliest instincts were to perform.

At age five, Britney was given the lead solo at her kindergarten graduation and parlayed these humble beginnings into larger roles before reaching her teen years. In her own words: “I found out what I was supposed to do at an early age.”

Britney’s mother, Lynne, escorted her to Atlanta Georgia when Britney was eight to audition for the revival of The Mickey Mouse Club. She was considered too young at the time by casting directors, but was nonetheless encouraged to hone her entertainment skills at a performing marts school in New York. Later, in 1992, Britney was cast in The Mickey Mouse Club where Britney shared the stage with other notable Disney alums like Christina Aguilera, Justin Timberlake and Ryan Gosling.

Was anyone in your family musical?

Britney was the first in her family to display musical talent, but not the last. Jamie Lynn Spears is Britney Spears’ decade-younger sister, famous for her roles in the sketch-comedy television show All That and as the titular character in Zoey 101. She provided vocals for the Zoey 101 theme song, and after a brief sabbatical from the entertainment industry to raise her baby, launched a country music career. Her EP, The Journey, was released in 2014 where is has garnered favorable attention from the US country and indie charts.

What is the high point of your career?

Britney is a woman of many successes. She was a successful solo female pop artist in an era where groups like the Spice Girls, Destiny’s Child and The Backstreet Boys dominated the airwaves. In fact, a record label executive reportedly told her, “there wasn't going to be another Madonna, another Debbie Gibson, or another Tiffany."

Despite these perceived setbacks, Britney went on to become one of the most successful and imitated female vocalists of all time.
