In the policing organization there is what is described as large- scale macro-level trends that can potentially transform policing in the future. These are certain trends that are believed to have a long lasting profound effect on the policing organizations in the future. In the future there are also critical issues that may affect the policing organizations. That is why it is important for the policing organizations to make changes to address these critical issues now. The trends that are believed to have a long lasting profound effect are police technology, employment practices in law enforcement, police research, demographic changes, and the war on terrorism. Each of the trends affects the policing organization now and in the future. Information technology is perhaps one of the most influential trends that are taking place in policing today. The policing organizations are using the internet to convey information to the public. The officers are also able to use communication devices such as cell phones to communicate with each other. The information technology affects other areas of the policing organizations. Database technology is now used to identify potential suspects in an area where crimes occur. The organizations once kept this information on file card indexes. Computer aided dispatch (CAD) is also helps with effectively and efficiently managing calls for public service. Computer aided dispatch delivered many advantages in the policing organizations. The (CAD) offered the departments a more effective and faster way to communicate with the officers out in the field. The mobile computers in the patrol car are able to receive information from the CAD system to help with the reduction in confusing an officer. The system also helped with checking the safety of an officer after he or she response to a call. When a call is made the CAD system helps the officer prioritize the call and make the appropriate actions that is needed. When an officer
