In the Drama, Romeo and Juliet, William Shakespeare uses dynamic characters to develop the idea that patience is necessary. Dynamic characters are characters who change throughout a Drama or novel. Romeo and Juliet are both dynamic characters who need to learn that patience is necessary. Their story takes place within days of meeting each other.

William Shakespeare uses dynamic characters to show the reader that Juliet used to be a obedient, respectful, and naive child who changed into a woman who became disobedient, no longer naive, and someone who fought for her right to love who she wanted no matter what their name may be. Juliet’s mother, Lady Capulet, came and asked Juliet “ What say you? Can you love the gentleman?/ This night you shall behold him at our feast;/ Read o’er the volume of young Paris’ face,/ And find delight writ there in beauty’s pen./ Examine every married lineament,/ And see how one another lends content/ And what obscured in this fair volume lies/ Find written in the margent of his eyes./ This precious book of love, this unbound lover,/ To beautify him, only lacks a cover./ The fish lives in the sea, and ‘tis much pride/ For fair without the fair within to hide./ That book in many’s eyes doth share the glory,/ That in gold clasps locks in the golden story./ So shall you share all that he doth possess,/ By having him, you make yourself no less…. Speak briefly, can you like of Paris’ love?” (I, iii, 80-95). Basically Lady Capulet is telling Juliet that Paris is perfect because he is handsome and he’s rich, so in marrying him she will stay rich in both beauty and gold. She is also asking Juliet what do you think of this, will you look and talk to him, and see if you love him? Juliet, being her obedient self replies, “ I’ll look to like, if looking liking move,/ But no more deep will I endart mine eye/ Than your consent gives strength to make it fly” (I, iii, 98-100). Basically Juliet said that she will try and love him because Lady Capulet said to but she will do no more until she says to. Juliet is respecting her mother’s wishes and is telling her she will do as she says which is very obedient of her. At the party or Feast Juliet meets Romeo and boy do they move fast. When they first meet each other they already are flirting and then they kiss, actually they kiss twice. Romeo and Juliet flirt in a different way than we do today. Romeo says “ If I profane with my unworthiest hand/ This holy shrine, the gentle sin is this,/ My lips, two blushing pilgrims, ready stand/ To smooth that rough touch with a tender kiss” (I,v,92-95). Romeo is saying oops I touched your hand which is a sin and let me sooth the rough touch with a kiss. Juliet after being kissed once by Romeo says “ Then have lips the sin that they have took” (I,v,106). Romeo and Juliet have just met and they have already kissed twice. That is a little too quick, I mean they just met! Juliet being in love moves even
