I chose Martin Luther King Jr. because he is one of the great leaders of all time. Martin Luther King Jr. was born on January 15, 1929. He was a minister and a civil rights activist. He is one of the most important leaders in the civil rights movement..He stood up for what he believed in. He believed that all people are equal and that they should be treated equally. He really helped African Americans in having equality. He has made a great impact on the world and in our communities. His ability to make decisions resolve conflicts, and have goals is what makes him a lot different from all the other leaders that are out in the world. When protesting for equality he protested peacefully and did not promote violence or act violently.

Martin Luther King Jr. is a leader because he was committed to his cause and never gave up. He was an influential, respectful, wise, and a smart leader. He has won the nobel prize for peace, which was awesome. It rewarded him for what he was doing and he used the money for the furtherance of the civil rights movement.

One character trait that makes him a leader is his ability to influence people in the right way. Martin Luther King Jr. was heavily influenced by Gandhi, who promoted the peaceful protests. Like Gandhi he encouraged civil disobedience as the ultimate way to fight for civil rights.”We must meet hate with love.” His famous “I Have A Dream” speech is one of the most famous speeches. It gathered people of all races and they all came together for one thing, which was equality. He wanted to show people the significance of solving the country’s racial problems. His famous words from the speech are "I have a dream that my four children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character".This sentence from the speech means that eventually he hopes that one day people will be judged on how they act and not what color they are.

Another character trait that identifies him as a leader is humble and wise. Martin Luther King Jr. never really bragged about himself a lot and just kept to himself for the most part. He mostly just wanted to express his opinions on equality and freedom. Which was equality for everyone no matter what your color was. He was wise because he did not go about expressing his opinions and what he felt in a bad way. He expressed his opinions by having peaceful protests, boycotting, and giving speeches. Martin Luther King Jr. was also a patient man, which came in handy. He knew that segregation would not change overnight, and he just kept speaking, having marches and doing all the things he could to stop segregation.

One day segregation would change, but it just takes time. There were a lot of people that contributed to the civil rights movement and that supported Martin Luther King Jr. One of them was Jesse Jackson who actually worked with Dr. King. He participated in marches
