Sector 1

I had an itch on my nose. As I opened my eyes from my deep slumber to try and relieve myself, I hear the comforting sound of ROB-E. I laid back down and waited for my mechanical companion to come to my service. I used my remote control to rotate my chair around so that I was able to wash my face, using only the push of one button my face was cleaned whilst I listened to the sounds of whirring and banging as per my daily routine.

I scarcely remember my life before ROB-E, back when I used my body to move around and do activities. Now all I required was ROB-E because thanks to the amount of pollution that used to be everywhere, the government stopped the amount we would throw away and instead gave us Robot Acquaintances to help live our life better. I haven’t moved from my Sector since 2018 when I was 9 years old, it is now 2034.

Someone has replaced Sector 9, I move closer to try and get a closer look. We normally never get new acquaintances but ever since the uproar with the last person who was in Sector 9, someone needed to fill the place. I hope he wasn’t the same as the last guy at Sector 9, he would always shout and say the same thing over and over again, that we were being used as the governments Guinea pigs to see if we would survive long enough until they used the machines on the whole world. I though he talked rubbish and I guess so did the guards because they took him away and dropped him into the hole. I have never seen the hole but I knew that once you were dropped inside, you were never to be seen again.

The sounds of other children in the playground laughing and cheering me on became louder and louder, as I got closer to the finishing line. I pushed myself using my burst of adrenaline to make that extra push and as I did…I woke up. The same dream occurred every night and I knew it meant something more to me than I let myself imagine. I could not think about the past because this was my life now. I was happy with being Sector 1 I was happy with ROBE-E, the only acquaintance I would need and use for the rest of my life.
