'la Belle Dame Sans Merci' is a ballad written by the english poet John Keats.In a few sentences the poem is abot how a dying knight met a beautiful sorrowful but evil enchanted lady.who had looked at him as if she loved him.When he set her on his horse.She steered him to a cave.There she sung him to sleep.In his sleep he had nightmares of pale kings,prince and warriors telling him that he had been enslaved or in thrall by a beautiful but cruel lady.When he awoke the lady was gone and he was lying on a cold hillside.

Keats relates this poem to the romantic period,where love becomes paradise.The poem is also somewhat associated with Keat's life as his mother abandoned him,the neglected feelings made him give the same feeling to the Knight in the poem.The poem is the shadow of a shadow.The poet portrays the "belle dame" in such a way as if noone can satisfy her because she symbolizes 'beauty',noone is good enough to capture her.She seduces him through moans,she wants him,feels him and wants love from him.Beauty cries because she wants someone to possess her and love her .Noone has the power to capture beauty.(god is a dream of which romantic poetry is a fragment,god lies in that fragment.

[stanza 1-3-describes condition of knight,stanza 4 onwards-knight speaks]

beauty is personified as the poisonous demon who longs for a man to understand her.She is too powerful to be captured by a man.The woman in real life is a concept so powerful,she lures then realizes how puny a man is to capture.Beauty is the illusive concept personified in the poem.The poet first tries to concieve beauty as poetry then tries to express it.

la belle has quartrain in alternating iambic tetrameter and trimeter lines.La belle is written in medieval genre then it is full of imagery.Keats has written a poem about poetry which cannot be discussed.It is the reader's loss to not understand the fragment.It
