WHY HAS STRIKE ACTIVITY INCREASED IN RECENT YEARS

It is a fact that many times in an organization or a company, even in government organizations things are not always acceptable or agreeable as everyone would like to be. This is when a strike will take place by the workers of the organization. A strike means that the employees of the company will refuse to continue their duty in response to their affliction and difficulties that they are facing in their workplace. Strikes became a significant activity from the 18th to the 19th century through the Industrial Revolution. This revolution began in the United Kingdom and its main reason were the major changes in manufacturing, mining, transportation and technology. All these had a philosophical effect on the society environment of the time. In our days almost every organization has its own trade union. Trade union is a group of workers that they are working together to accomplish better working conditions or to solve any problems the employees of the organization have. A trade union has the right, given by the employees, to concern about the terms and conditions in a workplace of a company.

In 2007 and the years before economic crisis there was a booming in approximately all the economies of the world. Booming means the economy is on the increase, so possessions were better for all the organizations and companies. Because of the fine economy banks were openhanded by giving loans much more easily. Therefore the companies did not have to make any pay cuts at all, or fired a range of their employees.

The following year’s economic crisis, forced the companies to obtain a number of strict measures so they will be able to survive the crisis and continue to exist. For example one of the simplest measures is the pay cuts, they also reduce numerous of the employee’s benefits like bonuses, retirement plans, severance pay and health and welfare plans. Otherwise as unfortunate as it may be most of the times the most efficient technique to increase a company’s profit for the period of an economic crisis is reducing the working force so, many people stay unemployment.

In the same period, as the economic recession took part, the price of petrol started to increase which led to the raise of the price of many products in the market that people might need as well. According to the low wages and the unemployment, is extremely difficult for people to pay money for their wants and needs. Consequently, all these situations lead to countless strike actions and everything that comes along with it like violence, police action, injured people and many others because of the people’s anger.

Through the last years many organizations and governments are facing an increase to the strike actions. A very valuable reason for these actions is the rapid evolution of technology and the internet. In our days people can easily
