REFLECTIVE JOURNAL

My name is Louis. I come from Vietnam and I’m studying IMBA at I-shou University, Taiwan. First of all, I share my feeling when I have been studied Organizational Behavior. Organizational Behavior is a subject that is very similar to “Introduction of Management” and “People and Organization” that I had learned at my university, Vietnam. Based on my understandings on these subjects, management is more about the organization whereas for people and organization and organizational behavior are basically talking about how a person behaves in an organization and how a manager are able lead his employees to work more efficiently and efficiency. After 10 chapters of classes, I realized this subject is very interesting. It had let me understand myself and how my behaviour will affect my performance in my working life in future.

In chapter 5, we talked about personality and values. Some things that I thought were important facts of this lesson were to know the personality dimensions: The Big Five. They were extroversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, openess to experience and emotional stability. And the variable I have chosen to discuss in relation to effective comunication is agreeableness.

Firstly, the agreeableness dimension refers to an individual’s propensity to defer to others. Highly agreeable  people are cooperative, warm, and trusting. People who score low on agreeableness are cold, disagreeable, and antagonistic.

Secondly, the agreeableness comunicates the individual’s interpersonal strategies and motivations. Similarity, Goldberg emphasises, that individuals rating high on agreeableness display increasing levels of cooperation, courteousness, sincerity and tolerance when dealing with groups and individuals. These characteristics provide a clear indication of the personal nature of individuals who possess high levels of agreeableness, hence enabling effective communication skills with others. Furthermore, research into this variable has revealed that Agreeable individuals can have a significant influence on team performance by displaying high interpersonal teamwork behaviour within a group, as these individuals are likely to have a stronger social orientation and the ability to effectively interact with others.

When I read about many facts, it really made me look around myself. I’m an agreeable sort of person: I get on with nearly everyone I know. However, I’ve always had difficulty in noticing and reading other people’s emotions. When I meet my friend Ami, I often just start talking about whatever is on my mind and don’t stop to notice whether she’s feeling up or down, maybe even having some trouble she needs to tell me about. So I thought, maybe I could find an exercise to help me become more attuned to others’ emotions. In the future, I think agreeableness had to do with important fact of being a good leader. Specially, I can build a relationship and make a dicussion with the employee easily.
