Despite having around 18% of world’s population, per capita electricity consumption in India stands at around 1075 kWh
7  which is one third of the world’s average. The per capita consumption of electricity is growing at the rate of 6 % per year. India’s share in global demand is 5.7 %. During FY2015-16, India faced power shortfall by 2.1%, but India is expected to be power surplus in FY2016-17, with base load energy surplus of 1.1%[8].
