Failure leads to success. Indeed, everyone failed to accomplish certain tasks or encounter some kind of dilemmas in life. For instance, Thomas Edison was fired from his first two jobs while Albert Einstein had some communication problems during his youth (Sugar, Feloni, Lutz). Though, they still become famous and well known for their success in life.

As a matter of fact, I’ve encountered problems associated with time management that somehow became a restriction for me to continue my path to getting good grades. Most students encounter this problem during their education period since they cant balance out their time for work and leisure, which few of them actually deal with the problem and discover the solution to it. Similar to others, I once ignored the importance of time management due to other more serious issues that I endured. I always do my work the last minute before it’s due, and tend to think that I still have lots of time to work on it. After experiencing several punishments by receiving low grades on certain assignment from other professors, I finally acknowledge that I mismanaged my time for work and leisure.

Time mismanagement is significant because it had leaded me to failure, and further influenced my emotion. Three weeks ago, I remembered I had my second Macroeconomics exam that day and I was fully prepared to take the exam. There are two parts for the exam, and both parts contain long essays and short problems, which time management is vital to complete the exam. For some reason, I was slowly finishing up my exam, expecting that I still have a lot of time left to complete both parts on time. I did not have a watch with me and did not see a clock in the classroom. The only place that showed the time was the white board, where professor wrote the amount of time left for exam. Despite the time shown on the white board, I still wasn’t paying much attention to it. When the professor announced the time, which was 20 minutes left, I was astound and started to panic because I knew I wasn’t able to finish the second part of my exam on time. At the same time, I also felt pressured and sorrowed because of the limited time left and the huge load of work I still had. I started to give up during the last 5 minutes with 2 big questions that has the most points knowing the fact that panicking doesn’t help me finish my exam but make my whole exam worse by writing unnecessary things. As the exam ended, I handed in my exam papers, and my mind gone blank knowing that I failed this exam even though I spent huge amount of time studying.

“Hard work will pay off”, my friends and teachers always reminded me this. Few weeks later, I received my grade for the macroeconomics exam. As expected, I failed it. Yet, I received a grade that was higher than my class’s average and that made me feel pleasant and satisfied. The things that I discovered throughout this experience were that I had problems with time management, and there’s no such thing as free lunch. Depending on my evaluation of the failure, this failure eventually lead me to greater success.
