We decided to compare the brands CAOTINA and NESQUIK which are both producer of chocolate powders. These two brands contain both mass-market products, but they don’t target the same consumer.

Caotina was invented 1963 by Wander in Switzerland to satisfy a growing demand by the Swiss public for tastier and healthier food products. It is more a premium-oriented product with a higher price. Their main targets are adults. Until the sixties, it was also oriented for children. Nowadays it is not the case anymore; they are really focus on adults and their family. Consumers of Caotina are looking for high quality and fine chocolate. In this optic, their packaging are reflecting the colour of the chocolate powder whereas Nesquik uses yellow packaging with a brown rabbit mascot to attract children. Indeed Nesquik is a family of milky products made by the Nestlé Corporation in 1948 in the United States. Their targets are more children from all age, but also the all family. They claim to give children a sweet and tasty drink that will provide them energy for the day.

The main point of party these two brands is the product category of chocolate powders. However, as we mentioned before, these brands are not targeting the same customers. Moreover they have other point of differences such their range of chocolate powders. Caotina sells four different tastes of powder: Caotina Surfin (milk chocolate), Caotina Noir (dark chocolate), Caotina Blanc (white chocolate) and Caotina Surfin Light (with less sugar for diabetic customers). Nesquik have also four different lines of powder, but only with milk chocolate: Normal, Intense (with more cacaos), Gourmand (more tasty) and finally Mon Premier Nesquik (for young children between three to six year old). Concerning their product diversification, Caotina also makes small chocolate called Napolitain and chocolate drinks whereas Nesquik makes cereals for children, chocolate bars and chocolate drinks
