Case study: Beach Carrier                                          Name: Peter Gao

Mary Ricci created a product concept: The Beach Carrier. It is a large bag designed to carry beach gear to the beach from the car. The bag can be folded down when not in use to make for easy storage. Several pockets are built into the carrier for the stuff the beach goers want to have with them. It is large enough to carry beach chairs as well. The material is lightweight and durable.

According to the information provided, I am going to do a SWOT analyze first:

Strengths:

1. Mary accurately determined the need of the market, and designed a product that functionally able to solve the existing problem.

2. Mary have done the market research, and have determined a very specific target market group(females buy beach product) that share the market with other product, that will make marketing easier that we can take advantage of their strategy(sun screen and suntan product)

3. Compare to the competitor that Mary pointed out, Mary’s product is very competitive from the function to the assumed price.

4. Because the nature of the product, the startup fund is reasonable and affordable.

Weaknesses:

1. Competition sample is too few, only 2 product will not represent the whole market.

2. Sole proprietorship will limited the growth and creativity of the business.

The assumption is not very reasonable and accurate.

3. Mail-order took too much effort and time but this method is out-of-date.

4. Margin is low, if Mary sell it for $13.99 the Margin is only 28.57%

Opportunities:

Seems the beach carrier market has a lot of potentials, I can tell by the competitor part: there is no perfect product/solutions, and Mary is on the right track. If she do this business penetrativly then it going to be a profitable business.
