CASE 1. Acme Manufacturing Company

Questions

  1. According to you, what specific things did Steve do wrong, and what should have been done in each instance?

Well, he can’t manage his time properly, firstly because he stayed late up to finish  his monthly production report, he didn’t managed to make it before or wasn’t able to delegate his days before so he would have had time to make it.

Secondly he was an half hour to late, he could have warned his secretary and afterwards he stayed for another 20 minutes at the shipping area not for business purpose but all private talk with his friend George what is unacceptable if you’re already late for an half hour. Yes you can do It but then you should come earlier to work so you’ll have plenty of time to talk about things like that.

Another problem that he has is that he is disorganized, he forget that he had a meeting, he didn’t even read the memo that was send a week or two earlier. He asked his secretary at 9 am if he had something urgent, and she told him he had a meeting with the boss, I think the first thing the secretary should have done when Steve entered the offices and tell Steve about the meeting and not the way around.

The VP of the sales is following up with Steve to look how the order of an important client is going, he delegated the order to someone else in the company and forgot to follow it up himself, which is a big mistake, and he certainly should have done. Because he didn’t do that I was in trouble, he had no idea that Lucy, the one he delegated it too, had a training so wasn’t able to help him at the moment.

Because of his lack of organization, he couldn’t prepare for the meeting and didn’t contribute anything to it, where If I would be the boss I would be very angry. Because it was about quality control which is also part of the production where he is the manager.

Steve has an appointment at 11:30 but again, has totally forgotten about it and can’t find anything written about it. That’s where normally, the secretary should have intervened because she normally makes the appointment and has to keep Steve up-to-date with them.
