Dufresne is a hero to himself and the prison. The reason he is a hero to himself is because he got accused of murdering two people, took charge, and broke out to better his life. After Dufresne broke out, he sends a letter to the police telling about the illegal things that the warden was doing. The top prison guard also got arrested because him and the warden were killing people when they got mad at them. When Dufresne first went to prison, one guy was crying really loud in the cell and the prison guard came and beat him to death.

The Shawshank Redemption is a mono myth which follows many basic patterns of narratives around the world. It had the hero in his ordinary world, call to action, refusal to call, crossing the threshold, and after the threshold.

The quote "follow your bliss and the universe will open your doors where there were only wall," really relates to The Shawshank Redemption. Although he doesn't have bliss in this situation, he forcefully ok lower his path and the universe put a hole in the wall of the prison. I also like the quote "If the path before you is clear, you're probably on someone else's." This relates to Dufresne because he thought all was going well with his job and wife, later the universe took a turn on him and accused him of double murder. He didn't expect that to happen but he broke out and lived a happy life in Mexico.

Dufresne comes from a small town and after a long day at work he goes an finds his wife cheating on him. He leaves and later a robber breaks into Dufresnes house and kills his wife and her lover. Dufresne get accused of murder because he was mad about his wife cheating on him.

After years in prison, he decides to take the journey to a better life. The only way to do this is by breaking out because he is there for life. He decides this because he didn't murder them and doesn't deserve that life. Eventually tells Red "Its either get busy livin' or get busy dyin'." That night was the longest
