Upstream

Johari Dasri is Vice President of Production Malaysia, responsible for production from more than 100 oil and gas fields in Malaysia and Joint-Development Areas (JDA).

Leading up to this, Johari was Managing Director and CEO of PETRONAS Carigali (PCSB) – the operating arm of PETRONAS’ exploration & production business. During this tenure, he expanded PCSB’s presence internationally to over 20 countries across 5 continents.

Prior to this, Johari helmed PETRONAS Fertilizer Kedah (PFKSB) for several years without a single loss time incident.

While leading the then biggest, largest and most complex operations of the Baram Delta Operations (BDO) in East Malaysia where the world’s first multilateral well was drilled, Johari had also successfully explored new approaches to drive up production, including deploying the world’s first triple wellhead at the Bokor field.

Prior, he headed the Drilling Department for ten years. Here, he built a mere one-rig operation team to a twelve-rig operation team.

His international stint includes leading the Greater Nile Petroleum Operating Company (GNPOC), in Sudan – one of the company’s first ventures in Africa. He had also set up PETRONAS’ first international drilling outfit in Vietnam.

At the start of his career, he trained at BP’s Forties field, the largest oil field in the North Sea then.  At PETRONAS Carigali-BP, PCSB’s first joint-venture company, he was directly involved in the safe drilling of exploration wells Offshore Sabah.

He is currently Chairman of several PETRONAS Carigali joint venture companies and a Board member of Balai Cluster Petroleum (BCP).

He is a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) and the Institute of Engineers Malaysia (IEM). He holds a degree in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Wyoming.  Johari has participated in the Kellogg Executive Management Program at Northern Illinois University, Chicago and the Stanford Executive Management Program.  He regularly presents technical and management papers at various regional and international forums and conferences.
