Ever since Washington was president the United States realized that getting involved with foreign affairs is a very volatile practice which general leads to large debts and even death. Isolationism was the best way for the US to protect itself and focus on internal growth without getting involved in politics that were breaking down in Europe. When WWI began in Europe the US did everything they could to try to stay neutral but eventually they got dragged into war when US civilians were being killed by submarine attacks and the Zimmerman Note to Mexico was intercepted. After the millions of dollors and thousands of live lost later the Treaty of Versille is the next large forign affair that the US has to deal with. The treaty is a complete disaster as it completely crushes the surrendign nation of Germany and ultimately is a main cause in WWII. After the war is over Harding and the US attempt to get back to their normal lives which revolve around Isolationism and laisse Faire. However their peace lasts for about 20 years a dictors in Europe threaten their isolated lives once more. They attempt to stay out of Europe by passing the Neutrality acts which prevent them from loaning money to foreign countries and are not responsible for US deaths on the high seas. However as the hostilities grow the US is slowly pulled into war again by first suppling the allies by means of Cash-Carry methods but no arms. Then they permit arms to be sold with the Cash-Carry arrangement. Finally the government institutes the first peace time draft for the emanate war. US continues to supply the allies through lend lease arangments and a trade of old battleships for a 100 year lease of English Naval bases. Until Japan bombs Pearl Harbor and the US is dramaticly forced into the war. After 4 years of warfare which consisted of thousands of civilian and soldier deaths and billions of dollars spent the war comes to conclusion as the 2nd atomic bomb is dropped on Nagasaki and the Japanese finally
