The pre-war to post-war experience on the home-front

The British vs. German naval battles were as a result of Germany’s attempt to contest the dominance of the British naval force all over the world. A group of German ships engaged in a fire exchange with British warships. Two ships from the royal fleet were sunk, and 1600 sailors from the British navy lost their lives. A few weeks later, the British retaliated by sending armored to the South Atlantic where they sunk four ships from the German side killing 1800 sailors.

Britain moved fast to establish a blockade around the German coast and its allies. It was to stop ships of merchants from supplying the Germans with food and raw materials. The Britons opted entirely to cut supplies to their opponent's thereby making them a weaker threat than they were initially.

After some, the British made a declaration that any ship that was bound for Germany had first to dock at a British coast for its contents and passengers to be screened before being allowed through. (Friedman, Michael, 2011) The Germans later turned to using their U ships. They took to ambushing all vessels that were heading to Britain and robbed them of their supplies to scare off imports to Britain. It made Britain declare the North Sea a battlefield and advised neutral countries to use it at their risk.

Isolationists were a group of business owners and activists who maintained hard stands against the United States involving itself in any way with the warfare in the European countries. Their ideologies dominant and they hardly faced a challenging group that would counter their propositions. They insisted that America needs to focus on it's in internal problems as they saw when there was increased possibility of a global economic depression. The government was therefore forced not to engage itself in international affairs as the Congress strongly opposed a bill for enrolling into League of Nation. They said that the country would be drawn into European conflicts (Friedman, Michael, 2011).

When the Japanese invaded the US Navy, many Americans saw the sense in President Roosevelts’ call for US to engage in international affairs. It came after a series of international aggressiveness between various countries. A few days’ later Germany and Italy declared war on United States. It forced the country to abandon the isolationist's ideologies. America went to war with the aggressive nations to protect is border and to assert is power internationally. When the war finally subsided, there was significant growth in the finance and urban industries in America. There were notable improvements in the education and the military sector. (Bohanon, 2015) This increase in the economy led to increased quality of life of all people in US. It is because the war created many jobs and resulted in the growth of many industries
