Height of Brassica Rapa: Light VS Dark

Abstract

Our experiment was to observe if there was a direct correlation between the height of the Brassica Rapa, and the amount of light received. Our hypothesis was that there will be more growth, with the plants that are getting adequate light. We checked on all of our plants once a week, and measured the height. The conclusion that our data led us too was that height of the Brassica Rapa is not affected by the amount of light that the plant receives.

Introduction

For this experiment, my lab partners and I will be focusing on Brassica Rapa. Our central question was; Does the amount of light the Brassica Rapa receives, effect the overall height of the plant? The amount of light would be our independent variable, and the height of the plant would be our dependent variable. Upon beginning this experiment, my partners and I hypothesized that there would be a direct correlation between the amount of light and size. To be more specific, we believed the more light that the Brassica Rapa received; the taller it would grow in height. For the experiment, we had an equal number of plants which would grow in light as well as dark. Four plants growing in light, and four plants growing in dark. We would check the overall growth of the plants every week, and assess our data. After three weeks of this experiment, we had found that our hypothesis was inconstant with our data. In fact, the plant that grew the tallest of all was one of the dark plants.

Methods

Upon brainstorming, my partners and I decided to test if the amount of light the Brassica Rapa receives would affect the height of the plant. We then carefully followed the instructions in the packet of how to plant the seeds. We wanted to ensure the most accurate data as we possibly could, so we used the same amount of seeds, fertilizer, and soil in all of the plants that we were growing. Our
