Similarities and differences

There are a number of similarities and differences between education, discipleship and spiritual formation. This is due to the fact that they each are a continuation of the previous. Education is the communication of knowledge. This is a necessity for both discipleship and spiritual formation. Education requires neither discipleship nor spiritual formation for it to occur, however is the foundation of discipleship and spiritual formation. Discipleship foundation derives from education. Discipleship is somewhat of a one to one means of learning, almost like a mentor relationship. Sharing ones experiences with one another to attain a deeper level of understanding. Discipleship is learning the mind of the master. Just as discipleship is a step beyond education, spiritual formation is a step beyond discipleship.

Spiritual formation is similar to discipleship in that the mentor, Jesus, shares his experiences through the word of God. In this case the follower to submit their all to Jesus. In a mentor relationship a follower does not have to agree with everything, but spiritual formation requires total submission as requirement in order for worship to occur. Although spiritual formation is the ultimate goal of congregations, educators understand the need for all three.In which of the three is a church ministry most interested? Why?

In my opinion I think congregations focus more on education. Teaching the word and will of the Lord. Sharing of the pastors learned theology and church history is also taught. All of these are good, however if I was in the congregation I would continually ask myself, where do we go from here. How is what I am learning and doing beneficial to those around me and those who have yet to still accept Christ as Lord and Savior. I pray for the day when pastor move beyond facts and begin building and I don't mean church buildings. What is learned in church
