Introduction

The paper provides an analysis of the issue relating to Corruption by Correctional Personnel from the recent articles. The aim is to provide a well rationalized and reasonable balance to check on the behavior of the correction officers as they relate with the inmates. It is a review on professional behavior of the correctional officers.

Prison is a place that no one need to be in or involved with, therefore, the society don’t know much on what happens within the closed doors. Corruption that is so pronounced within the prisons has for long being invisible to the public, and, as a result, it has resulted to a lot of social damage to the persons affected. Thinking of prison, it doesn’t only host physical bodies but also souls, that if treated unjustly, prison turn not to be a place to correct, but a place to multiply crime. But the most worrying thing about the whole issue is that the public is not interested or it entirely ignorant and doing nothing to help the situation.

Corruption by Correctional Personnel

Corruption by correction officers or personnel can be termed as unethical acts by officers concerned or the officers changing the whole purpose of correction center. Therefore, corruption is an intentional deviation from what is perceived to be the norm of civil order or public. These acts are motivated by desire for personal gain that is against common interest of the public. The purpose of the prisons is to provide shelter for the wrong-doers and also help them rectify their earlier acts that were against the law. However, this could not be the case within current correction center.

Although, the environment of the prison is perceived to be much different from the free world, in practical, the two worlds are the same. Inmate is labelled a people who have betrayed the society, but still there are officer who entrusted take care of these inmate leading in the dishonest acts. The officers are trained, supervised and paid to ensure the fundaments aspect of life is preserved in the society.

There are illegitimate acts the collection officers are supposed to be doing, but instead, they engage in violation of law for personal gain. High officials are mostly involved in these acts for their personal gain. The collude with the outsider who could be having some interests for political gain or appointments.
