INTRODUCTION

P

orphyrin ring forms the core of several biological systems as cofactors at the active sites of enzymes chelating with the metal ions like Cytochrome P-450, NADPH oxidase. But porphyrin enjoys the status of life endowing agent by being part of chlorophyll and hemoglobin. The macrocyclic aromatic core is formed by 18π electrons in resonance resulting in interesting fluorescent properties. Due to this, porphyrin has high absorption in the visible region and is colored.
