The Endocrine Glands

The endocrine system consists of many different glands. The lab performed helped to identify the different cells and glands in the endocrine system. This lab gives a better understanding of the function of the endocrine glands. The endocrine system consists of the thyroid, parathyroid, pancreas, adrenal, thymus, pineal, testes, ovaries, anterior pituitary, and posterior pituitary glands. In this lab, the thyroid, parathyroid, adrenal, thymus, anterior/posterior pituitary, and pancreas glands were studied.

During this lab, microscope slides of each gland were viewed. The thyroid and parathyroid were on one slide as well as the anterior and posterior pituitary slide. The adrenal, thymus, and pancreas slides were all single slides. Each slide was viewed and drawn. The follicular cells, parafolicular cells, and colloids of the thyroid gland and the oxyphil cells and chief cells of the parathyroid gland were studied with one slide. In the microscope slides of the pancreas, the pancreatic islets (langerhorn cells) and the acinar cells were studied. During the microscope study of the adrenal cortex, the focus was the three layers which consist of the zona glomerulosa, zona fasciculata, and the zona reticularis. The thymus glands visual focus was the thymic corpuscles. The pituitary gland was also viewed.
