Comparing

We all go to McDonalds, we look the same movies and series on T.V. We both look wealthy country’s but are we? I think there are a lot more differences between The States and The Netherlands than you expect.

For this paper I stay with education. In elementary school in The United States you can go the the next grade if you pass for a couple of tests during the year. If you don’t pass the test you stay in the same grade, if you pass you go to the next grade. In The Netherlands it’s different of course we have tests but it is not bad when you don’t pass for the test. That is because when we go to high school everybody go’s to their own level. In The States their education is just one level everybody get’s the same education. In elementary school, in high school and in university. I think this has a good side and a bad side. The bad side is that smart kids are not challenged during class. I saw it myself in a elementary school. A child was a sleep during the instruction of the teacher. When the children had to make a working sheet the teacher woke hem up. He made the sheet and got back to sleep. He had all the answers right. So when you are smart graduate in The States is easy. The good side is that everybody have a change to go to university. It doesn’t matter if you are smart, or less smart you can graduate at the university if you work very hard. I think it’s not good, it’s good that everybody have the opportunity to go to college. But I think it’s better to have education on your own level. You are more challenged, you are less failing in your own level so it is better for your self-confidence

A thing that is different in The United States comparing to The Netherlands is the relationship between students and teachers. Students can earn extra credits. When you are in class and you participate well, you sit straight up, you ask questions in this way you can earn extra credits. This is something we don’t know in The Netherlands. During our introduction their was a presentation how to earn these extra credits. They said that you have to be sure you teacher know you, you have to sit in ‘ the t-zone’ from the teacher so he/she can see you, you have to ask a lot of questions during in class en after class by e-mail. I think this is a bit strange because we don’t know this in The Netherlands. But not only because I’m not familiar with it. I think it is fake, you have to stay close to yourself and I don’t like it to do things to earn extra credits.

The relationship between students during class is completely different in The Netherlands. In The Netherlands students
