Hollywood is a place full of ideas, sets, and actors eager to find a match to a certain script. More recently, directors have been taking the storyline of books and transferring them into films in order to please the fan base of the book series. Books like Harry Potter and the Lord of the Rings have been successfully transferred into movies and brought in heavy profits. However, many fans are unhappy with the fact that the movie lacks the detail that the book provides. Moneyball is a good example of one of these movies. The movie lacks certain details about the life of Billy Beane as a player and the history of baseball itself. However, the director of Moneyball does show emphasis on the economic dilemma that the Oakland Athletics had to deal with in the year 2001-2002. Moneyball was directed by Bennett Miller and based upon the best-selling book written by Michael Lewis. Overall, the book and movie shared its similarities, but also had several differences that make the plot slightly different from the book.

Moneyball is a story discussing the 2002 Oakland Athletics and their economic limitations but how they managed to make the playoffs and break the record for the most consecutive games won with 20. Fortunately, for the reader/viewer, the story of Moneyball is a true story, which means that the setting, time, and most characters are constant in both the film and the novel. Another similarity between the book and movie is that all of the same strategies and ideas are used to find new players to help win more baseball games. Another equivalency between the film and novel is between the players that Billy Beane and the Oakland Athletics lost to richer teams in ‘Free Agency” and the players they acquired to help the team score more runs and therefore win more games. All in all, the whole idea of the story Moneyball is built from facts, studies of baseball, and the life of Billy Beane that correspond to produce a fantastic book and a good movie.
