Hard Candy - Movie Review

The 2005 thriller film Hard Candy can be seen as a truly horrifying flick to the viewer who is very squeamish. The film uses a significant amount of editing and cinematography, to evoke moods of horror, excitement, and humor throughout the film and truly keeps the viewer on the edge of their seat throughout the whole movie. Throughout this film there are a noticeable amount of close-ups and panoramic shots which can be attributed to the creepy relationship that is upheld between the two main characters whose ages vary by 26 years. These close-ups and panoramics do a great job of upholding the tension and intensity of the movie and preserving the overall tone of the film.

As the film begins we are immediately introduced to some very skillful cinematography as the camera lens dynamically captures a bunch of messages that are being sent on the computer between Jeff and Hayley. This shot in a way truly foreshadows the creepy relationship that is evident between the two. The shot of the computer messages is cut and immediately brought to a very vibrant, colorful, close-up of a piece of cake.

As the two meet at the coffee shop it immediately becomes evident that there is something strange about the connection the two have as there are a significant amount of close-ups used as the two individual's converse. As the two head back to Jeff's house the zoomed out shot of his house truly foreshadows the imagery that something bad is about to happen and evokes a very creepy mood and tone.

As the two arrive at Jeff's place it does not seem as though Jeff is any type of pedophile or sick minded because of the appearance of his place; however, there are a lot of pictures of underage models surrounding his place. As we slowly become aware of who Jeff really is, the plotline takes a dramatic twist as Hayley spikes his drink and a cut in the film is used to where we next see Jeff tied up in a chair.
