Information Literacy Assignment 1-Reflective Paper Worksheet

After reading the material and listening to “ISAEC the Librarian”, what are your ideas about information literacy and how it can help you?

Information literacy is very important because it helps a student precisely retrieve information, organize information and use information. There is alot of information out there for a varitety of topics in all formats, and information literacy helps us to better use the information we need to acquire.

Identify one area of your life where you could use Information Literacy. Use something specific such as writing a paper, buying a car or buying a cell phone. Exactly what information do you need to know?

Information literacy is very important when writing a research paper. First, you have to choose a topic and then do your research. When researching information you need to identify what information is needed. A research paper is usually split into subtopics so it is important to find precise information on what your subtopics will be about. Also when your writing a research paper the information needs to be organized so the paper will flow. The sources used for a research paper need to be reliable sources not sources such as wikipedia.

Based on the information from item 1, what sources would give you the best information? Do you need books, online material, or both?

When using information literacy it would be best to use books and online material. When I am finding information I usually turn to online material because it is more beneficial to me, but also the virtual library can be a great resource for finding information.

What would be the best strategy for you to use to acquire the information?
