Readers Responce

The book Georgia Odyssey by James C. Cobb is very detailed. It was said that Georgia had a very impressionable climate. The winters weren’t that cold and the summers had their breezy winds. That something I really don’t see today in Georgia. The first beginning of the book talked about when Georgia was a European colony. Georgia as a colony went through some difficult times. There was a point in time where they struggled on exports were not balanced.

Georgia has a lot of history in it. There are many places on Georgia that have museums that kind of show its history. The text that I have read affects me obviously because I live in Georgia and it is always good to know the history of the state. I really didn’t know that much of the history of Georgia before I reads this book.

The book talked about slavery. Today in class we talked about slavery but didn’t go deeply into that certain subject. Today slavery is illegal in America. Cobb calls certain people of color or class names. These words that he uses in his book are really offensive today. Example in today’s society if you would call a black person a negro they would probably get disturbed and say a smart remark back. They way many slaves we treated then are really cruel to us as we learn about slavery. Freedom came for those that were slaves. Throughout time freedom has changed for many people depending on their time period. The slaves from the book were forced to work and they couldn’t make decisions in their own. Today many people define freedom as being able to do what they want, whenever they want to.

I have learned from the text that freedom has had multiply meaning from the past to the present. Slavery was a common use in the American Colony. Those who owned land could be slave owners. Even thou not all slave owners were cruel to their slaves, it’s still nit fair for you to have someone work for
