Syncretism

In the religious or spiritual contexts, syncretism means combining from a diversity of sources, rituals, psychic instruments, and psychoactive position, into new forms of communion. And syncretism thinking is associative and non-linear. Emergent bodies of knowledge on the edge of science, as with Gnostic system of older cultures, embrace what established societies and their enforced orthodoxies treat as different or unfamiliar, alien or proscribed. The etymology of syncretism derives from coming together of Cretan warring tribes to face a common enemy. In contemporary culture, the enemy is habit the uncritical repletion of behaviors, opinions, perceptions, categories and values, which can cause the differences in outcomes of syncretism. Because the advancement of syncretism in contemporary society equally requires Trans disciplinary research which could lead significant changes in the way we regard our identity, our relationship to others and the phenomenology of time and space (Ascott, Roy, 2006).

And also considering how European encounters during the period of shared the commonality that the peoples of the cultures and civilizations were viewed as others, distinct from the Europeans. Seeing people of different cultures or civilizations as others served to objectify the individuals to an extent. Rather than being considered individuals, they were treated, at worst, as commodities that could be bought, sold, or entirely discarded. It can be argued that slavery resulted, in part, from this commoditization of human beings on the African and American continents. Viewing people of different cultures in this way often resulted in the application of pejorative terminology such as savage could lead to a common factor of differences (AIU Unit Material, 2012).
