RESEARCH QUESTION: Are universities protecting student athletes involved in rape cases more than the victims?

Epifano broadcast of the student rape can describe how victims are being treated by their universities. Many of them will go unresolved especially when it involves a student athlete, who is giving a good impression on the universities behalf. The victims themselves will never be able to get the help that they need. This article like many mention the thousands of schools across the country that let victims suffer, while the athlete that is involved in the crime go free with no consequences.

Universities like the University of Tennessee-Knoxville have had to deal with the consequences of student sexual assault cases. It is revealed in the website that the university settled a lawsuit involving eight different women that were sexually assaulted by student athletes. However, during the process of the case the university did not admit to the wrongdoings but agreed to pay a fee to the case. This article shows a great example of how some universities like the University of Tennessee-Knoxville did not own up to the athlete’s mistakes and tried to protect the athletes and themselves more than the victims.

Points reviewed by Senkim, were that the independent detail on different student athlete rape cases. What was taken from the article is actual stories that involved the protection of student athletes rather than the victims themselves. Universities like Baylor University and Tennessee-Knoxville university were known unto the spotlight of discussing the proper actions on how to teach student athletes about sexual assault. Hearing about rape cases, puts pressure on the other universities to make plans, so that they may not be thrown into similar situations. Teaching these athletes about sexual assault, will help make the universities look better especially after a scandal.
