Pippetting, Extraction, and Recrystallization are fundamentals in using the equipment in the lab. There is a different ways on how to measure the right amount of substances should be put in the container and by pippetting. I will be able to put the right amount of substances in the container. My task is to find out the density of the NaCl(aq)+ and the H2O (water) and compare the difference between the two. Extraction is the act of extracting or the condition of being extracted something obtained by extracting. By using the pipette I can extract the I2 and the CH2Cl2. The I2 is solid, CH2Cl2 and H2O are solvent. The I2 is solid and it mixed with the CH2Cl2. The H2O is lighter that is why it float. I2 and CH2Cl2 combines together and the H2O separate. The density of the H2O is lighter. The upper layer is the H2O and the lower layer is the I2 and CH2Cl2 are mixed together. After repeating the process there is only white color left in the container because the I2 and CH2Cl2 are extracted to the other container and by using the pipette. Recrystallization is a procedure for purifying compounds. The mixture of sulfanilamide and 95% ethanol are dissolved in the smallest amount of hot solvent to fully dissolve the mixture, thus making a saturated solution. The solution is then allowed to cool. As the solution cools the solubility of compounds in the solution drops. This results in the desired compound dropping (recrystallizing) from the solution. The slower the rate of cooling, the bigger the crystals formed. In an ideal situation the solubility product of the ethanol is not exceeded at any temperature. In that case the solid crystals will consist of sulfanilamide and all the impurity will remain in solution. The solid crystals are collected by filtration. If the solubility product of the impurity is exceeded, some of the impurity will co-precipitate. Relatively low concentration of the impurity, its concentration in the precipitated crystals will be less than its concentration
