Cantos III- Journey into Hell

All of a sudden I hear a deep, chilling voice “I am the way into eternal grief”. I turn around to attempt to figure out where I came from. I run through the halls of the treacherous cave only to find no exit. We are all in this together. The crazy thing is, all of the souls around me are diminishing. Luckily, I seem to feel perfectly fine. There is no way that I am one of them. I continue my search for an escape route. It’s something horrid, perhaps even decaying away, but I continue toward it, as it continues towards me. I begin to realize something devastating. The figure at the end of the hallway is me. What used to be a young, healthy man has begun to decay. I am one of them. We are all in this together, we are all damned for eternity.
