Essay on Charity

Charity refers to the act of goodwill or affection by voluntarily giving money or offering services to the needy or the poor.

This year I was able to volunteer for SNF (Special Need’s Foundation). It is an organisation where children with special needs are taught to depend on themselves rather than others. "Special Needs" is an umbrella underneath which a staggering array of diagnoses can be wedged. Children with special needs may have mild learning disabilities or profound mental retardation; food allergies or terminal illness; developmental delays that catch up quickly or remain entrenched; occasional panic attacks or serious psychiatric problems. The designation is useful for getting needed services, setting appropriate goals, and gaining understanding for a child and stressed family. "Special needs" are commonly defined by what a child can't do -- by milestones unmet, foods banned, activities avoided, experiences denied. These minuses hit families hard, and may make "special needs" seem like a tragic designation. Children with special needs had always been considered as an outcast in the society, where they’re often teased or poked fun at. But the times have changed and now the society has learnt to take up these children as one of their own kind.

SNF (Special Need’s Foundation) had set up an event known as FUN BAZAAR at Deira sherton hotel, which exhibited the items the Children with needs, had made. These exhibits included: - paintings, art, crafts, etc. made by the special needs children. The money raised through the event was used by the organisation in welfare of the children itself. There were even games & programs conducted to entertain the guests & the customers. It was an enriching experience about getting to know how the parents and children coped up together to bring out the best in themselves & fighting
