United States Department of Labor Case Study

Abstract

This study paper will provide information that will describe the major features of the United States Department of Labor and how each feature can be used to monitor employee benefits. There would be information provided that would explain how employers verify their employee’s benefits and how they comply with the federal laws. Research would show employees how to use the legal compliance site to ensure that their benefit rights are protected. The compliance site would be able to provide all needed information when it comes to their rights and this paper would provide the needed information to assist on where to locate the information and detail some of the basics. However an outlined would be created so that it could assist other users to its usefulness for regulatory compliance.

Describe the major features of this website and how each feature can be used to monitor employee benefits.

The website provides an abundance of information for employed people throughout the country concerning benefits available to them. It highlights specific points of interest that are common among visitors. The major features include: frequently asked questions, the most recent and up to date news involving labor, current numerical data and percentages, and information on where to get further assistance. The alphabetized section of various topics that will give visitors detailed information on specific issues they may have. Employees can check the various features to become educated on news that impacts their individual needs. One can explore the features regularly to see the latest news and how it affects them. For instance, if a worker needs to know what is available to them if they are laid off or terminated, he or she can click on the appropriate links and be guided to the section which provides the necessary information (Walsh, 2001).

The website also provides features on wages, in which is the Department of Labor enforces the Fair Labor Act (FLSA). The Fair Labor Standard Act sets the minimum wages and the overtime pay criteria. The standards are clearly enforced by Department’s Wage and Hourly division. Any Cash bonuses are not supported by the Fair Labor Standard Act as it is an agreement between the employer and the employee. Another feature would also be unemployment insurance. The Unemployment benefits are handled by the Department of Labor’s unemployment insurance (UI) who provides benefits to eligible workers who have been terminated through no fault of their own (Gold, 1998). The eligible worker must meet all the eligible requirements before being approved to receive unemployment payments.
