When analyzing the external environment of StilSim Personnel many opportunities are found that can be taken advantage of to further our company and make us more competitive in the business world. There are also many threats that become apparent which we need to be aware of so we can at least be ready for them, or better yet find a way to turn them into even more opportunities for the growth and sustainability of our company. Key areas to look at in our general environment will be the forces of demographics, sociocultural, political / legal, technological, economic, and global. Although all of these forces are important, some will prove to be more important than others for StilSim. It is also important to look into the competitive environment our offices operate in. We need to study our industry by looking into the threat of new entrants, bargaining power of buyers (our clients) and suppliers (employees we place in jobs), substitute products, and the level of rivalry among our competition.

Within the general environment the demographic segment is important for us to understand so that we can adequately find the right people to place into positions with our clients’ businesses. StilSim needs to be aware of an aging population and cater to the employment needs of people in the baby boomer age group. We have an opportunity with companies that have more available employment options in certain areas of the state, such as green industry and medical staffing in the lakeside area. We also need to be considerate of the demographics of the businesses we supply employees to. For instance StilSim faces a threat with the people, and companies, we serve leaving Capital City and relocating to the suburbs. This trend is potentially taking customers away from us on both sides of the spectrum. This threat could be turned into a potential opportunity if a branch could possibly be located in the suburbs to be closer to its clients.

In the sociocultural segment there are more and more environmentally conscious individuals in the workforce everyday looking for companies trying to be just as green as they are, and those companies are on the rise. This is an industry that will only become larger and more important as time goes on. We cannot ignore that this trend could shape the future of our world as we know it. With this market still as small as it is we have a major opportunity to get StilSim in at the beginning of something big. We could get our foot in the door and make ourselves the main name in green personnel. There is also a rise of temporary workers seeking employment; many of them working full time in part time positions without benefits in hopes that they will be hired into full time positions with benefits, Aleah called these permatemps.
