Process Design Matrix and Summary

The process design is a very vital part of operations management and plays an instrumental part of a company. The process design must begin with the proper planning and strategizing to build a solid company. Defining the essential steps within the process design matrix makes product conception easier to launch in a competitive market. Most of these tasks involve very intellectual activities. Some companies define and follow a precise process of development, while others may not even be able to describe the process.

According to, Chase & Jacobs, 2011, each company may choose a process that is not similar to any other affiliation; in fact, the same company may choose to follow an entirely different product design matrix to launch a product. This executive summary will identify the appropriate design approaches for the selected service and the selected product. The service selected is a nail and beauty salon and the product selected is Boeing Aircraft.

The Product-Line Approach

The product-line approach focuses more on the business model for the success of the company. In a hair and beauty salon, the customer normally has a continuous pattern based on the service you may choose for that day. A customer is first to sent the shampoo bowl to be washed by a shampoo technician in preparation for the stylist who will complete the service. This allows the stylist to finish up with the previous customer and shortens or removes the wait time for the next customer to follow.

The Self-Service Approach

The self-service approach allows the customer to maintain a greater role within the service provided. Many customers like self-service because it allows them full or partial control. Based on this service design a customer in a nail and beauty salon, has the option of choosing their colors, designs and types of services they wish to receive instead of being limited to a small number of services. This approach builds report between the business and the clientele and ensures customer longevity.

The Personal-Attention Approach
