Leadership

What is leadership? It can be defined in many ways, and have many titles, for instance the word leader which is associated with leading a group of people or an organization. Leaders will at the same time fill many roles interacting, motivating group members, solving disagreements as they arise. Leaders establish visions, strategies, goals, and values in order to guide for desired action and behavior. Leaders are characterized by certain traits which distinguish leaders from non-leaders includes drive, desire to lead, honesty, cognitive ability, self-confidence and knowledge. Moreover, effective leaders must have two major qualities: knowledge and communication capabilities. Leaders need knowledge of issue and the ways of effectively leading a team. This knowledge will allow leaders to identify alternatives available. Furthermore, leaders need to be an effective communicator as equally listener and speaker. Leaders should acquire qualities of flexible, openness, empathetic, courage, interactive, and a positive attitude. In this paper, I have chosen to discuss the leadership skills of the Dr .Martin Luther King Jr. and how his leadership skills effectively change the culture of a whole nation.

The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. not only spoke with purpose but also with a style unlike any others leader of his time. He was an inspirational speaker and an engaged leader, he motivated masses with his tremendous speeches and actions. During the civil rights movement of the 1950's and 1960's, Dr. King utilized his charisma, strengths and inspirational tactics to change the views and beliefs of a nation and lead his people throughout their course of the civil rights movement. As an engaged leader he inspired thousands of people, influenced his opponents and guided the Civil Rights Movement to achieve its goal. He was a realistic leader with exceptional values; he was honest, caring, sincere, loyal, and possess a great sense of integrity. In addition Dr. King was always very sensible with the ability
